Individual and family health insurance is coverage you choose yourself, rather than getting it through an employer. You pay a monthly premium, and in return the plan helps with many of your health care costs—like regular checkups, prescriptions, hospital visits, or care for an ongoing condition.

Even though it’s called individual insurance, these plans can cover your whole family. Having coverage helps you prepare for the unexpected and gives you access to preventive services, like yearly checkups, which are often covered at no cost.

If you’re exploring your options, our team can help you compare plans and find coverage that fits your needs.

Many families qualify for tax credits that lower monthly premiums. Eligibility depends on your household size and income. We can check this for you and explain what you qualify for.

Health plans differ in how you access doctors and what you pay:

  • HMO (Health Maintenance Organization): Lower cost, but you usually need to stay in-network and get referrals for specialists.

  • EPO (Exclusive Provider Organization): Similar to an HMO, but may not require referrals. Out-of-network care is generally not covered.

Plans are also grouped into “metal levels”: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. These levels don’t change the quality of care—just how costs are shared between you and the plan.

We can help you understand these differences so you feel comfortable with your choice.

All Affordable Care Act (ACA)-compliant plans include essential benefits like preventive care, maternity and newborn care, prescriptions, mental health, and pediatric dental/vision. Comparing plans side by side with guidance can make it easier to see which coverage works well for your situation.

Open Enrollment runs each year from November 1 to  December 15. Outside of that window, you’ll need a Qualifying Life Event (like marriage, a new baby, or losing coverage) to enroll. If you’re not sure, we can help you find out.

If you miss open enrollment, you may still qualify for a special enrollment period based on certain life changes—like losing other coverage, moving, or a change in household. Reach out to us and we’ll review your situation to see what options may be available.

It depends on the plan’s network. With individual health insurance, you usually need to see doctors and hospitals that are in the plan’s network for your care to be covered. Care outside the network typically isn’t covered, except in an emergency. On your intake form, we ask about your preferred doctors and hospitals so we can review your options and point out which plans include them.

  • On-exchange plans are purchased through the Marketplace and may include subsidies.

  • Off-exchange plans are bought directly from carriers and may provide additional options if you don’t qualify for financial help.

We can review both types with you so you understand the choices available.

An HSA is a special savings account that lets you set aside pre-tax money for medical expenses when paired with a high-deductible health plan. It can help manage today’s costs and build savings for the future. We can explain whether an HSA-compatible plan may be a good fit for your situation.

Christian Health Share programs are not traditional insurance. They are faith-based cost-sharing arrangements where members contribute monthly and those funds are used to help pay for other members’ medical expenses. These programs may have limitations on what they cover, such as pre-existing conditions or services that conflict with the organization’s beliefs.

Because they are not regulated like standard health insurance, it’s important to carefully review the guidelines before enrolling. If you’re considering a Health Share, we can help explain how it differs from Marketplace or private insurance options and whether it may fit your needs.

No. There’s no added cost for working with a broker. The real value is having an expert who researches the plans for you, since the marketplace doesn’t always make it easy to compare your options. We look out for your specific needs—checking your doctors, prescriptions, and other priorities—while walking you through enrollment so you can feel confident in your choice.
